Autumn Term:

Our topic this half term is 'Terrible Tudors'. We have started by learning about the Battle of Bosworth and will be looking at the history of various Tudor Monarchs. We will be studying Henry VIII and his wives and reading lots of Terrible Tudor stories by Terry Deary.

In PE we have been developing our balancing skills and learning to control body movements through gymnastics and team games.

In jigsaw (PSHE) lessons we have been celebrating differences within each other and learning about what it means 'to be me in my world'. Through these sessions we have explored the importance of being ourselves and celebrating each others unique personalities.

In Maths we have been developing our place value knowledge, learning to count backwards through 0, understanding negative numbers, reading temperatures on a thermometer and started to develop our understanding of tenths and using this knowledge to multiply and divide numbers by 10 and 100.

In Literacy we have been studying different Welsh myths and Legends and even had a go at writing our own titles 'The Legend of the Gap'. We will now be moving on to looking at non chronological reports and using this knowledge to write one of our own based on our knowledge of life in the Tudor times.

In science we have been learning about states of matter and thermal insulation and will be investigating which materials would have been more effective to keep Henry VII's soldiers warmer during the Battle of Bosworth.

Spring term

Happy New Year Everyone!

We are kickstarting this term with our new topic 'Burps, bottoms and bile'.

Open wide – let’s look inside! We’re on a voyage of discovery to investigate the busy world inside your body.

There will be lots of investigating as we learn about our different teeth, how to brush them and how sugary drinks affect them. We’ll examine the amount of sugar in different foods and create images of ourselves with healthy and unhealthy teeth. We’ll write a story describing the journey a piece of food takes through the digestive system. In science, we’ll learn about the organs involved in digestion and make our own wearable digestive systems in D&T. We’ll learn about digestion in different animals and handle a range of digestive organs.

Help your child prepare for their project
The food we eat goes on an amazing journey through the digestive system. Why not keep a joint food diary for a week to see if you eat enough gut-friendly foods? You could also try a new food or drink that you’ve never tasted before. What do you like or dislike about its taste and texture? Alternatively, drop copper coins into a range of fizzy drinks overnight to see what happens. Which drink has the most powerful cleaning properties?

See below for a link to our knowledge organiser which outlines important vocabulary that we will be talking about throughout this topic!
