Adverse Weather

School Closures due to Adverse Weather Conditions

On rare occasions we may need to take the decision to close the school due to adverse weather conditions posing a health and safety risk to the school community.

We aim to avoid, as far as possible, any uncertainty and confusion in the event of a possible school closure and we  will endeavour to communicate as fully as possible with you.

In making the decision to close we take into consideration  a range of factors including:

  • weather updates from the Met Office
  • road information from the Highways Agency
  • local reports on local and national news sites
  • recommendations from the local authority
  • the conditions of the site itself
  • conditions of local roads
  • hazardous driving conditions
  • health and safety risk assessments
  • any risk to staffing - do we have sufficient staffing? can we provide children with a meal during the day?

The decision to close the school is made by the Headteacher in conjunction with the Chair of Governors.
